'American Idol': Iggy Pop, 'Real Wild Child,'

'American Idol': Iggy Pop, 'Real Wild Child,'

Iggy Pop was the craziest performer American Idol has ever had. What was Idol thinking of getting Iggy Pop to sing? Singing his 1986 hit "Real Wild Child", he appeared shirtless on stage hoping that all the teens watching him on TV will be happy for what he just did.

At some point, even legends become caricatures of themselves. Think "Fat Elvis" or, you know, Britney Spears. But that doesn't mean we don't still heart them. And Iggy gets our props for -- in true rock and roll spirit -- not giving a flying **** whether he delivered a top-notch performance on a competition show he would've bombed out of back in 1969 anyway. The man is a rock legend and that's why he was there Thursday (April 7) night.
American Idol: The Untold Story
Those of you out there who are not necessarily fans of Iggy's seminal band, The Stooges, may have been left shaken and a little confused. It's okay. Just forget it ever happened and keep humming Constantine Maroulis's rendition of "Unchained Melody."

But for anyone interested in hearing Iggy at the top of his form, well, check out this nugget:

The contestants in the bottom 3 this week were Jacob Lusk, Pia Toscano, and Stefano Langone. Both the contestants and judges were surprised by who ended up in the bottom 3. After Jacob was announced safe this week it was down to Pia and Stefano. The American Idol results for April 7th saw Pia Toscano sent home.
Before the elimination took place we were treated to a performance by Iggy Pop. In what seemed to be an odd choice for American Idol, Pop is in the Hall of Fame which was this weeks theme. At almost 64 years old he sang his hit “Real Wild Child” on the Idol stage. The Iggy Pop performance made this weeks American Idol results show a little different than those in the past few weeks.
