GLENN BECK: leaving fox is tough
Glenn Beck's departure from FOX came out tonight in the aftermath of today's surprising announcement.
Beck spoke about it at the end of his show tonight, noting that leaving Fox was "something I've been thinking about doing for a long time" before going on to reassure viewers "we will find each other...I will continue to tell the story and I'm going to be showing you."
And then, in typical Beck fashion: "Paul Revere did not get up on the horse and say 'I'm going to be doing this the rest of my life, he got off the horse at some point."
Meanwhile, in an interview with the AP, Roger Ailes seemed to concede the split was mutual and echoed a similar sentiment:
"Half of the headlines say he's been cancelled," Ailes said. "The other half say he quit. We're pretty happy with both of them."
"We felt Glenn brought additional information, a unique perspective, a certain amount of passion and insight to the channel and he did," Ailes said. "But that story of what's going on and why America is in trouble today, I think he told that story as well as could be told. Whether you can just keep telling that story or not ... we're not so sure."
Video of Beck's remarks below. He says he will be on till the end of the year, but it's hard not to wonder from his tone tonight whether this was it. Video below.

U.S. To Just Hand Terry Jones Over To Fundamentalist Muslims
'Have At Him,' Officials Say
APRIL 6, 2011
GAINESVILLE, FL—In response to the uproar surrounding Terry Jones, the Florida pastor whose Koran-burning last month sparked riots in Afghanistan that have so far claimed at least 24 lives, the State Department announced today its plan to "just pack [Jones] up and ship him over there" so that fundamentalist Muslims can take out their anger on him directly. "We just want to let followers of Islam across the globe know that, hey, we're totally with you on this one, so do your worst," said U.S. deputy secretary of state Thomas Nides, who spoke to reporters this morning shortly after CIA agents secured Jones with duct tape and tossed him face-first into the cargo bay of a DC-9 aircraft. "You want to shove a Bible in his mouth and kick it through the back of his head? Fine with us. Want to behead him on the Internet? Send us the URL—we'd love to have a look." Officials also noted that if the world's radical Islamists are still angry after dealing with Jones, the U.S. has "dozens more just like him, so say the word."
Ana Hazare step up against corruptions
Social activist Anna Hazare, who for some inscrutable reason started talking about corruption and some funny sounding Jan Lokpal Bill between celebrations of world cup victory and build up to the IPL, has been asked by the Prime Minister to wait until after the IPL was over. Anna Hazare had earlier announced a fast unto death if the Parliament didn’t adopt the anti-corruption bill without diluting it.
“At least wait till the IPL was over gaddamnit!” a press statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) read, claiming to reflect the mood of the nation, duly represented by the parliamentarians.
“The country is happy, let them be, will you?” the statement further appealed to the 72-year-old activist, who deems corruption as the biggest threat to the Indian democracy.
Hazare, a Gandhian, wants the state and central government to set up offices of ombudsmen, independent of government control like the Election Commission, where common citizens can walk in without fear and register complaint against elected representatives and public servants for cases of corruption. The ombudsman will also have the power to prosecute those found guilty without waiting for government’s permission.
“That’s ridiculous,” said a minister on conditions of anonymity reacting to the provisions of the Jan Lokpal bill that is being supported by people like Kiran Bedi, RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal, and Baba Ramdev.
Due to its highly ridiculous nature, the government wants a Group of Ministers (GoM), under the able leadership of Sharad Pawar, to review the bill and “set it straight”.
The Jan Lokpal bill has been pending adoption by the parliament since it was first introduced in 1969 and was erroneously passed by the Lok Sabha, but failed to get pass the Rajya Sabha. The bill failed to pass on nine subsequent occasions after being mysteriously introduced in the parliament ever since, making it the longest pending bill, ahead of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
But Anna Hazare is hell bent on making it eleventh time lucky this time, something that is pissing off the parliamentarians.
Faking News can reveal from its trusted sources that the Group of Ministers working under Sharad Pawar has zeroed upon some “concrete steps” that could be taken to help the honorable parliament maintain its consistent performance on the anti-corruption bill.
“We could announce a PAC or JPC to look into the demands of these random guys,” a GoM member said to have proposed.
“Brilliant!” Sharad Pawar is reported to have reacted, “But what if they say pass this bill for Sachin Tendulkar? You know, people can go crazy and rally behind the bill in that case. Kapil Dev has already extended support to the bill. Fortunately, 1983 win is not such a big news now.”
“In that case, please note that the bill these guys have drafted doesn’t talk at all about any reservations to the dalits, OBC or the minorities, just like that Women’s Reservation Bill,” the member divulged the plan-b, “I guess we could introduce it in the parliament again, and some of our friends could stall the bill for being unfair to the weaker sections of the society.”

Kloppenburg Takes Lead In Wisconsin
Kloppenburg Takes Lead In Wisconsin
By Sean Sullivan
April 6, 2011 | 11:49 AM
In the Wisconsin Supreme Court race that is still too close to call, Assistant Attorney GeneralJoAnne Kloppenburg, the favorite of liberal activists and unions, has taken the lead over JusticeDavid Prosser, the Republican-favored candidate.
With all but three precincts in the state counted, Kloppenburg leads by a mere 224 votes, 739,574 to 739,350.
Early Wednesday morning, Prosser still held a lead, but it was whittled down to a few hundred votes. The populous Milwaukee County, which has gone 57 percent to 43 percent in favor of Kloppenburg, still has two precincts that need to be counted. The county is divided on partisan lines, with the northern half more friendly to Democrats and the south hospitable to Republicans.
But settle in: There are still thousands of absentee ballots left to count. That means this race is going to drag out for a while to come.

OPM Government Shutdown
OPM: Government Shutdown Threat
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a statement addressing what a government shutdownwould mean for federal employees should lawmakers fail to reach a budget agreement ahead of a Friday deadline.
"The President has made it clear that he does not want a government shutdown, and the Administration is willing and ready to work day and night to find a solution that all sides can agree with," the statement said. "That said, given the realities of the calendar, prudent management requires we plan for an orderly shutdown should the negotiations not be completed by the end of the current continuing resolution."
OPM explains that if a shutdown does occur, departments and agencies on the federal level would be required to comply with contingency plans distinguishing operations that must be stopped from those which would be allowed to continue.
HuffPost's Dean Praetorius outlined on Tuesday what one could expect in the event of a shutdown:
A government shutdown occurs when a government discontinues providing services that are not considered "essential." Typically, essential services include police, fire fighting, armed forces, utilities and corrections. Interestingly, Congress and the President are exempt from the furlough and continue to receive compensation despite the fact that other services are suspended.
